Welcome back to another edition of things that vex me, the place where we rant, rave, moan, groan, and complain about all the things, big or small, that vex us in life.
Last time it was constant Christmas Music, today it’s the turn of earworms, those insidious little bastards that do all they can to drive you mad.
This things that vex me is inspired by two daily prompts, the first is the Earworms one from the end of last year, the other funnily enough is today’s daily prompt, Morphing. Funny how life does that sometimes.
For those unaware an earworm is one of the most evil things in the universe, it is a tiny little worm that crawls in your ear, hence earworm, and starts humming or singing a small part of a song over and over again until you want to bang your head against a wall. Sometimes they get so bad that you no longer just want to bang your head against the wall but you actually do.
The most evil kind of earworms are those that hum or sing a verse of a song that you know you know but can’t quite place or remember, leaving it on the tip of your tongue, frantically wracking your brain and searching YouTube for it. So many time you come up empty forcing you to climb into bed and weep.
Then you get earworms that force you to listen to the same song over and over and over. Which if it’s a good song may not seem like such a bad thing but after the 9th or 10th time of listening to it you can feel your ears begin to bleed, the little earworm is busy dancing away inside your head calling for it to be played again. If it’s a bad song, well it’s a bad song clearly you can see how that is worse than if it’s a good song. Although personally I think it is worse when it’s a good song because it ruins it and takes the enjoyment out of it, for a while at least.
Today’s daily prompt, morphing, has caused me to have the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers theme stuck in my head. Stupid daily prompt. Stupid earworm. Nothing seems to be able to dislodge that little bastard at the moment.
I’m off to try and drown it out with good music and I’ll be back next week with another things that vex me.
