Every November/December time Santa casts a little spell to create copies of himself so that he can appear in grotto’s all around the world, mostly in shopping centres for some odd reason. This gives children the world over the chance to sit on his lap, have their picture taken with him, and most importantly tell him what they want for Christmas.
Hands up who used to visit Santa at one of his grotto’s as a kid? Don’t worry my hand is up. Now keep your hands up if you still visit Santa at one of his grotto’s? I assure you my hand is most definitely down.
It used to be one of those family things we would do every year. Go to the local shopping centre, queue up for a bit, finally get to see Santa, sit on his lap, have our picture taken, tell him what we want for Christmas, and then get given a random gift from the giant pile next to the tree which always turned out to be a bit rubbish. Ah memories.
Walking through my local shopping centre the other day I was sad to see that there was no Santa’s grotto there this year. Instead the space has been given over to chuggers who chase you around and try to make you feel guilty.
Does your shopping centre have a Santa’s grotto?
