Daily Prompt: History of Language

Today’s daily prompt is called History of Language and it asks;

Write a piece of fiction describing the incident that gave rise to the phrase, “third time’s the charm.”

Really? I mean it’s so clearly because someone failed at something the first two times and then succeeded the third time. It’s all a bit cliche.

Although admittedly it did happen for Ashley Cole, he lost his first two UEFA Champions League finals but then won it on his third attempt in 2012 when Chelsea beat Bayern Munich.

Isn’t that more interesting than a bit of fiction on this? I have just told you about a real case of it happening.
