Today’s daily prompt is called Menagerie and it asks;
Do you have animals in your life? If yes, what do they mean to you? If no, why have you opted not to?
Yes I do, I have a pet cat. Sadly she’s getting quite old now and has been ill quite a lot the last year.
Recently in one of my Dave’s logs I mentioned how we had to take her to the vet to get a bunch of her teeth removed because they were rotting and giving her awful breath. Good news is she is doing a lot better now, she appears to be back to her old self trying to con food at every opportunity.
Before that she had like some problem with the nerves in her spine and even in the vet thought she was at her end. She could barely walk she was in so much pain and she quite hiding, you know like animals do when they are near death. It was actually really horrible and sad to watch. However after an op and some steroid treatment she’s OK, which surprised the vet, he was amazed at how much she how recovered from it. She is in pain from it some days though, like she’ll be really grouchy and unfriendly, so we have to give her some pain killers and she’s fine again. It’s like arthritis, it seems to be worst on cold/wet days.
So what does she mean to me? Well clearly a lot considering I’ve actually written quite a bit for the daily prompt for once. Her being gone for a few days at time each of those times, plus seeing how much pain she was in. Yeah. I’m not really sure how to describe it but you suddenly realise how big a part of your life a pet is. You get used to seeing them wondering about the house doing their own thing, pestering you for food or attention, when they aren’t there its quiet. Empty even. Until you’ve had a pet I don’t think you quite get how big a part of your life they become.
