Daily Prompt: Head Turners

Todays daily prompt is called Head Turners and it asks;

We often hear strange snippets of conversation as we walk through public spaces. When was the last time you overheard something so interesting, ridiculous, or disturbing you really wanted to know what it was all about?

How rude! I don’t do that! That seems so impolite to listen into other peoples conversations as you walk down the street. It’s because of people like you that makes me paranoid to have a conversation in public. Shame on all of you.

OK just kidding. Sort. I mean I am paranoid to have conversations in public. If I’m alone I often have headphones and I’m in my own little world daydreaming and listening to my music, I’m not really concerned with what other people are saying or doing.

Also I live in a very multicultural/cosmopolitan area of London, a lot of the conversations that do take place are in languages that I can’t understand. Granted that does make it so that I try to detect the emotion and tone of the people speaking. Er I mean I don’t listen how rude!

One of the… best? Weirdest? Most disturbing? I’m not really sure which it is. Anyway back to the story, I once heard a girl say to her friend on a bus loud enough for everyone to hear. I just want to stress that, a packed bus, which was rather quiet except for these two girls.

“I don’t get why my Stacy is so upset all I did was sleep with her boyfriend because she wouldn’t”

It is a statement that raised oh so many questions, but ones I’m not sure anyway wanted to know the answer to. Everyone on the bus just sort of looked at each other with a ‘what the fuck are we hearing’ expression.

From that point on until they got off the bus everyone was trying to listen into their conversation.
