Today’s daily prompt is called Why, Thank You? and it asks;
What’s the best (or rather, worst) backhanded compliment you’ve ever received? If you can’t think of any — when’s the last time someone paid you a compliment you didn’t actually deserve?
What’s a compliment? I’ve never heard of or received one of these things.
OK joking aside there are only ever one compliment I get given, the classic “you’re funny”. Now admittedly I am, so at least it’s an honest assessment, although I have been paid that compliment when I’ve been trying to make a serious point in a discussion before which is rather frustrating.
All this feels a little vain. Like it’s just some excuse to talk about the compliments we’ve received and how they made us feel. Or an excuse to bitch about a backhanded compliment you received. Like a girl who posts a duckface picture on facebook saying something like “I’m so ugly” waiting for a bunch of people to leave a string of compliments about how they aren’t ugly.
Say whatever backhanded compliment you received and wait for people in the comments to rubbish it and pay you a real compliment. Are people really that vain and that shallow that they need constant compliments?
Studies have shown they things like Facebook are stunting peoples social skills and is increasing things like narcissism. No joke or anything there, just a worrying trend and this seems to play into it.
Don’t worry you don’t need to leave me a compliment in the comments section.
