Today’s daily prompt is called Handmade Tales and it asks;
Automation has made it possible to produce so many objects — from bread to shoes — without the intervention of human hands (assuming that pressing a button doesn’t count). What things do you still prefer in their traditional, handmade version?
Yeah I’ve got nothing on this one. Don’t get me wrong I like putting things like IKEA furniture together and I’m thinking of learning some carpentry skills, I love those things online where someone takes a series of pictures of projects they’ve made out of wood, things from gaming swords (and other weapons) to the masks from Majora’s Mask.
I would love to be able to do that, I’m thinking of trying it out at some point this month, you know if I decide to stop being lazy. I think I’ll go for Cloud’s Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7.
With how sophisticated the machines are getting now they can do some pretty amazing stuff. Give it a few years and they will even be able to do the most miniature fiddly thing imaginable. And let’s not forget 3D printers, I really want one of those, I’d spend all day printing stuff.
Yeah I can’t think of anything handmade by another person that I prefer over what a machine can do, but I take pride in the stuff I put together, there’s a sense of accomplishment.
